In a desperate bid to press home their demands for the payment of their eight months salary arrears, 11 match bonuses and outstanding sign on fees, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, Borno State players have declared war against the management by embarking on a work to rule strike action.
The players refused to train on Tuesday morning and afternoon following the expiration of their ultimatum to the management to pay up their outstanding entitlements or risk a strike action.
The players are owed various sums ranging from N70,000 to N100,000, which was negotiated by the players depending on their status.
Despite the approval of an enhanced salary of N150,000 for all premier league players by the League Management Company, the players were paid only N60,000, failing to pay all the accumulated backlogs.
The players said they would continue their action until their demands are met.
It is however not just the players that are being owed as the coaches sign on fees and salary arrears, running into millions, are yet to be paid.
The players, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, appealed to Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno Stateto look into their plight by paying all their outstanding entitlements.
Meanwhile, the management and the players’ representatives met with the state Deputy Governor in a last ditch effort to resolve the crisis.
If the strike continues, the team may miss their next league match, which may put them in a precarious situation.
