Delta: Uproar as four robbery kingpins escape from police custody

The circumstances leading to the escape of four armed robbery suspects from the custody of the Delta State Police Command on Tuesday triggered crisis.
The suspects were the alleged kingpins of various criminal offences rocking the oil rich state since after the 2011 general election.
The heat their escape generated on Tuesday forced the state Commissioner of Police, Ayo Ikechukwu Aduba, to remove the head of the command’s Anti-Robbery Investigating Department, Ademola Adebayo, an Assistant Superintendent of Police.
A police source said the suspects were detained at the command’s Criminal Investigation Department at its headquarters in Asaba, the state capital, before their mysterious disappearance.
A source told The Eagle Online: “The circumstances leading to their escape is still an unresolved puzzle to my CP.
“As I speak to you, heads have started rolling at the state’s CID, beginning with the head of department.”
According to the source, the ASP was removed from office following his inability to furnish the panel set up to probe the overt and covert details of their escape.
The suspects were arrested recently after a gang successfully robbed a branch of a old generation bank in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
Men of the Joint Patrol Team of the command acted on a tip-off that the gang had plotted to unleash another round of mayhem on some unsuspecting industries when they were caught.
