Key political Actors and Allies of Nigeria’s emergent third force movement under the umbrella of Nigeria Intervention Movement, NIM, have commenced nationwide mobilisation towards the formation of a new Political Coalition to rally freshbreed political leaders, Civil Society groups, Labour Activists, Professionals, Women and youths to halt what is regarded as a threat to the survival of Nigeria’s fledgling democracy occasioned by steady descent of Buhari’s government to civilian dictatorship.
The Leader of NIM, Dr Olisa Agbakoba, SAN, a Foremost Human Rights Advocate and Former President of Nigerian Bar Association, NBA in consultation with key political leaders of the third force movement at the weekend took the decision to halt the growing attempt of the Buhari government to emasculate and compromise key State Institutions ahead of the general Elections holding in country next Month.
A mobilisation committee of the movement led by Prof Anthony Kila has been mandated to shortlist and mobilise allied political parties, Candidates, Former Aspirants and select leaders of Conscience in the country for a major national planning parley slated to hold this week in Lagos and Abuja against the backdrop of the ultimatum earlier given to President Buhari to reverse his purported removal of the Justice Walter Onnoghen as the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN or face mass resistance.
“The latest move by ‘third force’ stakeholders is essentially inspired by a strong resolve to checkmate the heightening desperation and contrived plan of the Buhari regime and its collaborators and its counterparts in other political cartels from circumventing the 2019 electoral process and consequently foist a major political disorder on the country” Kila stated in his committee memo inviting stakeholders and allies to a major convergence in Lagos on Thursday
The Kila Committee, which include Dr Osagie Obayuwana, Hajia Khadija Abdullahi Yusuf, Comrade Ibuchukwu Ezike among others has also been mandated to contact new breed Presidential Candidates of the third force movement for them to immediately jettison individual ego and self interest and to join forces to save Nigeria’s nascent democracy by ensuring free, fair and credible process for next month general elections.
The committee has also been charged to take advantage of the current political mood of Nigerians for a Credible Alternative to the APC and PDP to explore the possibilities of a formidable strategic political alliance and electoral synergy among ‘third force’ political parties, Presidential candidates and Aspirants etc so as to neutralise possible dismal outing for the ‘Credible Political Alternatives’ of the third force’ Movement that may arise from lack of electoral solidarity of third force Candidates.
It stated: “The Leaders of the movement also commend the intervention and concerns expressed so far by the European Union and the United States about the current political tension in Nigeria. The movement will not hesitate to internationalise its struggle to save Nigerian democracy as well as the sanctity of the mandate of the Nigerian people in the 2019 general elections by all means necessary. We however wish to call on the National Assembly to urgently redress the constitutional crisis created by President Buhari’s impeachable offence of the illegally removing the Chief Justice of Nigeria from office, an action which clearly breached judicial due process and violated the Nigerian constitution.”
Some of the political actors and Presidential hopefuls already invited to Thursday parley in Lagos are: Olisa Agbakoba, Ghali Umar Naaba, Tafawa Balewa, Donald Duke, Abubarkar Umar Dangiwa, Olawepo Hashim, Oby Ezekwesili, Kingsley Moghalu, Omoyele Sowore, Fela Durotoye, Shina Fagbenro, Obadiah Melafiya, Tope Fasua, Alistar Soyode, Elishama Ideh, Thomas Ikubese, Mathias Tsado, Ahmed Buhari, among other ‘Third Force’ Freshbreed Presidential Hopefuls expected to allign in the new coalition to save democracy and the 2019 elections.
