Visiting Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi on Saturday succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas in a 2018/19 CAF Champions League fixture.
The Group A Match Day 2 fixture at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in Abidjan saw Hamed Diomande convert a 38th minute penalty kick to hand the 1998 champions all three points.
The defeat is the third in as many away games in the continental competition for Lobi Stars.
They had lost 0-1 to UMS de Loum of Cameroon and 1-3 to Kenyan giants Gor Mahia in the earlier rounds of the competition.
In spite of the loss however, Lobi Stars remain second in the group with three points, enjoying a better goal difference than ASEC.
The Ivorian side were hammered 5-2 by Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca on Match Day 1.
The Nigeria Professional Football League side on their part had defeated Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa 2-1 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Lobi Stars will now face table-toppers Wydad Casablanca in home and away next month in continuation of the round-robin group phase.
