There was panic on Monday in Ikeja area of Lagos State after the tyre of a Sport Utility Vehicle burst.
Policemen and civilians who thought it was a bomb that was detonated by members of dreaded sect, Boko Haram, scampered for safety.
The incident occurred close to the headquarters of the Lagos State Police Command.
A police sergeant, attached to the state police command headquarters, said when the sound of the burst tyre was heard, the thinking was that Boko Haram had struck.
The sergeant said many of them believed the insurgents detonated a bomb.
He said they all breathed a sigh of relief when it was discovered the sound was from a burst tyre.
