The Bayelsa State Police Command says it has recovered the decomposing body of one Jennifer Ugadu, a 200-level undergraduate of the state-owned Niger Delta University.
This was revealed in a statement by the spokesman the command, Asinim Butswat, on Tuesday.
Butswat said the body was discovered on Tuesday.
He said Ugadu was allegedly killed by her boyfriend, James Matol, who is said to be a Soldier.
The statement said: “The police have recovered the decomposing corpse of one Jennifer Ugadu, 23, a 200-level student of the Faculty of Education at the Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Amassoma, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.
“The deceased’s body was discovered on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, after one of her friends stumbled on a chat, where the deceased’s boyfriend admitted to killing her and threatened to commit suicide.
“Preliminary investigation reveals that the deceased was shot in her apartment by her boyfriend, one James Matol, who is allegedly a member of the Nigerian Army. Investigations also reveal that the deceased was last seen with the boyfriend on Sunday, July 11, 2021.”
Butswat said the Command’s Commissioner, Mike Okoli, had ordered investigation into the incident.
