Balarabe Musa, Ezeife, Fawehinmi, others honor Abiola on June 12

Eminent Nigerians and leaders of thought from all walks of life will gather at Bashorun M.K.O. Abiola’s residence in Ikeja, Lagos State to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the June 12 Democratic Movement of Nigeria, organized by the June 12 Movement in collaboration with the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy, led by the daughter of Abiola, Hafsat
According to a statement issued on behalf of organisers by Olubori Obafemi, this year’s solemn assembly, tagged: “June 12 and the way out of Nigeria’s instability”, is designed to be an agenda setting breakfast national democracy colloquium, where eminent political leaders in the country are expected to pay tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Abiola in the actualization of the current democratic dispensation in Nigeria
Obafemi said in the statement: “This historic annual event will hold on Wednesday 12th June, 2013 in remembrance of the sacrifices of the Nigeria people to actualize the popular mandate given to MKO Abiola on June 12 1993 but annulled by the military under the command of General Ibrahim Babangida.”
The event, which is expected to be attended by senior citizens and eminent leaders/activists from across the Democratic Movement of Nigeria, will be hosted at the residence of Abiola at 42/46 MKO Abiola Crescent, off Toyin Street, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event will hold between 9am and 12noon.
Some of the eminent Nigerians expected to speak at the event are Alhaji Balarabe Musa, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, General Alani Akinriade, Prof. Akin Oyebode, Chief Chuwuemeka Ezeife, Prof. Pat Utomi, Comrade Abduwaheed Omar, Ganiat Fawehinmi, Chief John Nwodo Jnr, Dr. Sule Hamma, Senator Gbenga Kaka, Chief Mike Ozekhome, Senator Solomon Asemota, Comrade Peter Esele, Ann Kio Briggs, Olisa Agbakoba, Femi Falana, Mallam Shehu Sanni, Alhaji Shettimah Yerima, Veteran Olawale Okunniyi and Mallam Naseer Kura.
The statement added: “The occasion which is expected to receive Governors Raji Fashola,Aliyu Babangida and Godswill Akpabio among others will witness the annual wreath laying ceremony in memory and honour of the sacrifices and martyrdom of the Chief MKO Abiola, winner of the June 12 1993 election, popularly acclaimed as the freest, fairest and most credible in Nigeria’s political history.”
