A 12-year-old boy, simply identified as Segun, has been shot dead at the Ipaja area of Lagos State.
Segun was killed when four armed men stormed his parents’ residence and demanded for cash and other valuables.
It was gathered that the men went from room to room in search for money but when they got to Segun’s parents’ apartment, his mother was fast asleep but the armed robbers woke her up and demanded for cash.
It was gathered that the boy overheard the conversation between the armed men and his mother and decided to confront the robbers, pleading with them not to take all the cash from his mother as his parents are yet to pay his school fees but the robbers shot him when he persisted.
A source who requested anonymity said: “He heard the conversation the robbers had with his mother but as his mother went to get money from her purse, he dashed into the room and started pleading with the armed men not to collect all the money.
“When the robbers would not listen, he ran and held his mother’s wrapper pleading with her that she should not give the robbers all the money as the mother is yet to pay his school fees.
“The robbers got angry and asked him to shut up but he refused and that was when they shot the boy.
“The armed men ran away after they shot the boy and collected the money from his mother.
“It was a tragic experience for a boy.
“The boy died in the hospital and this has thrown the family into mourning.”
It was gathered that a team of police men on patrol arrested a young man in connection with the crime.
The case was reported at the Ipaja police station but has been transferred to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja for further investigation.
