Amaechi may be screened on Tuesday

There is strong indication that a ministerial nominee and former Governor of Rivers State, Rotimi Amaechi, may be screened on Tuesday.

This followed the revelation by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Sam Anyawu,on Monday that the Committee’s report on the petition against Amaechi will be submitted on Tuesday for consideration.

A body, the Integrity Group, had petitioned the Senate over what it termed the mismanagement of the resources of Rivers State while Amaechi held sway as governor.

The Senate, however, twice deferred screening of the ministerial nominee due to failure of the Committee to present its report before the Red Chamber.

Speaking with journalists after the Committee’s meeting on Monday, Anyanwu disclosed that the Committee has met on the report and it will be submitted for consideration before the commencement of screening on Tuesday.

Anyawu said: “All the ministerial nominees are equal.

“There are petitions and we are treating them.

“And they are part of today’s (Monday) committee public hearing.

“We have heard that of Amaechi and these reports will be presented tomorrow (Tuesday) and by the time it comes out tomorrow(Tuesday), the press will have it.

“I can assure you that the report will be ready tomorrow (Tuesday).”
