All ongoing roads under construction in Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State are to be completed as soon as the dry season sets in, Governor Godswill Akpabio has pledged.
Akpabio, who made the pledge on Sunday when stakeholders of Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency, led by Dr. Akpan Michael Umoh, a member representing Ikot Abasi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, paid him a courtesy visit at the Governor’s Lodge, Uyo, hailed the economic importance of the constituency to the state and the nation in general.
The governor said further that with the completion of Septa Energy in Esit Ekid, there would increased economic activities in Ikot Abasi, pointing out that his administration was in its best to circulate development to every part of the state.
He commended the former Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Nsima Ekere, who resigned from office on Wednesday and was replaced by the first female Deputy Governor, Lady Valerie Ebe, on Saturday for his efforts and services he rendered to the state while in office.
Akpabio remarked: “The resignation of the former Deputy Governor came as a surprise to us, which he made it clear that it was based on personal reasons.
“Therefore, I must commend and thank him for his efforts and services he rendered to the state and I wish him well in his endeavours.
“So, in my promise to carry the people of Ikot Abasi Federal constituency along in my administration, I decided to pick another Deputy Governor, Lady Valerie Ebe, from the same constituency so as not to cause distractions.
“And we chose her because she is a mother and a mature person to fit into that office and she is bringing in her humility, experience and a motherly touch to government.”
Akpabio appreciated the paramount ruler of Ikot Abasi, Edidem Udo Joe Ntuk Obom XII, for his humility, which he described as very disarming, in spite of his position in taking care of the affairs of his domain.
Ebe described Akpabio and his wife, Unoma Ekaette, as lovable and loving people, transformers of human resources and of women, believing that the governor brought her in as his deputy for peace to prevail in the state.
She said as a promise keeper, the governor would soon fulfill other electioneering promises he made to the people.
Umoh said their visit was to thank Akpabio for choosing someone from their constituency as his deputy and to pledge their commitment to stand by him.
