The Deputy Chief of Staff to the office of the Deputy Governor of Abia State, Don Ubani, on Sunday, called out the immediate past Commissioner of Trade and Investment in the state, Chief Charles Ogbonna, over recent comments on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu over power shift and choice to hand over the 2023 gubernatorial seat to Umunneato Ngwa extraction in Abia central senatorial district of the state.
Ogbonna, who also doubles as ex-Deputy Chief of Staff to the Abia Deputy Governor, had during a recent interactions with select journalists at his residence in Umuahia, which recorded video of the event surfaced in social media handles, claimed he recommended and introduced Ikpeazu to the godfathers that made him a governor in 2015.
He also frowned at the alleged move by the Governor and the political players within the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to alter the existing zoning arrangement, well-known as “Abia charter of Equity” which provided rotation of the governorship seat of the state among the three Abia sentorial zones, insisting on power shift to Abia north, against Ngwa extraction of Abia central being pushed by Ikpeazu.
Recall that Governor Ikpeazu also hailed from Obi ngwa bloc of the Abia south senatorial zone, and was elected as Abia governor on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in 2015, and later reelected for a second term, which will elapse in May 29, 2023 after general election by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
But Ubani, while reacting to the claim in a statement on Monday in Umuahia, the state capital, slammed the former commissioner over the outbursts and reminded him also that he must take the cognizance of the fact that each one aids another in life, and posited that the latter’s outburst was a show of frustration just out of grievances.
According to him, “the cheap money he was getting left, centre and right does not flow any longer. Having realized that all his early morning libations have proved elusive and abortive, he now beats about the bush. He has already joined APGA. The earlier he leaves PDP, the better for PDP. PDP does not win in his polling unit because of the way and manner he treats his kinsmen.”
Continuing, Ubani said, “one of the things that is worthy of drawing attention to Charles Ogbonna’s refrain is his claim that he ‘introduced Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to those who made him Governor’. Inasmuch as it is clear and beyond any iota of doubt that Dr Okezie Ikpeazu had been prominently involved in the political dynamics of Abia State thirteen years before becoming Governor and, so, makes a total mess of Charles Ogbonna’s claim, it is important that Charles takes cognizance of the fact each one aids another in life. Charles was, sometime in his life, a butcher. He was hired and paid to slaughter cows and goats and retail to consumers.
“For him to have migrated from cruelty to harmless animals to the plum positions he had held in Abia State, someone or some persons must have provided a platform that served his purpose for social mobility. Nobody is an island to himself. Charles should know that the office of the Governor deserves decorum and respect. He should avoid being vulgar and disrespectful while talking about his state governor in a public forum”, he submitted.
