Abba has capacity to lead police – Outgoing IG

Outgoing Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, on Friday described his successor, Suleiman Abba, as a smart officer, who has the capacity to lead the force to greater heights.
Abubakar stated this when handing over the symbol of authority to his successor at the force headquarters in Abuja.
Abubakar said: “He (Abba) is my junior brother by all standards.
“I have guided him through to the best I can do.
“Today, I am handing over to him.
“It is a thing of joy and I believe that Abba will do his best in the circumstances he found himself in the police.
“He is an officer, who listens and takes advice.”
Abubakar urged officers and men of the force to extend to Abba the same support they gave him (Abubakar) while in office.
Reflecting on his years of service in the force, Abubakar described his handover day as “memorable and one of his happiest moments.
“I think today (August 1) is one of my happiest moments in life.
“It is a memorable day.
“I joined the Nigeria police as a young man without guidance and a without godfather.
“I never thought in the history of my life that I will be on this seat (IGP), but God decided I should be on the seat.
“I remain indebted to each and every one of you, particularly members of the rank and file.”
Abubakar recalled that he was appointed as the IG at the most critical history of the country in terms of security, promising to share his experience with Abba.
He said: “We came at the most critical history of this country in terms of security and, therefore, you cannot take away the knowledge and expertise that we have acquired over time.
“Any IGP, who had gone through the crisis of insurgency, can definitely not be compared with those who have not gone through it.
“It is one thing to be the IGP, it is another thing to do police job.
“Police job is beyond one man, it is a partnership.”
Born in May 1960, Abubakar enlisted into the force on July 31, 1979.
He was appointed as the 16th indigenous Inspector General of Police by President Goodluck Jonathan on January 23, 2012.
