65 US universities woo Nigerians to institutions

More than 65 universities in the US are to participate in the forthcoming EducationUSA’s 17th Annual College and Career Fair, scheduled to hold on different dates in Lagos and Abuja.
Chinenye Uwadileke, EducationUSA Adviser in Lagos, said on Monday that the fair would hold from September 26 to 27 in Lagos and from September 28 to 29 in Abuja.
According to her, the Lagos fair will be devoted to prospective Nigerian undergraduate students who want to embark on Bachelor Degrees programme in the U.S.
Uwadileke said: “The U.S. Mission in Nigeria through its EducationUSA office is organising the 17th annual College and Career Fair on September 26 and September 27 in Lagos.
“It will hold the event between September 28 and September 29 in Abuja.
“We are expecting 32 accredited U.S. universities in Lagos, while another 33 are also being expected in Abuja.”
“This is the only fair of its kind and size in Nigeria and a great way for Nigerian students to learn more about higher education in the U.S.”
The Adviser said that the fair would not only give prospective students options of where to study, it would also give U.S. Alumni the opportunity to share their experiences with them.
Uwadileke said the fair would afford Nigerians the opportunity to interact freely with representatives of the universities as well as enable them to make the right career choices.
The official said that the US Government was committed to partnering with Nigeria in the overall development of her citizenry, especially in education.
Uwadileke said the US Government had over the years continued to encourage more Nigerians through its Fulbright Programme and Hubert Humphrey Fellowship to study in different US institutes.
She also noted said that the government had continued to support Nigerians educationally through its Youth Leadership Programmes, Citizen Exchange programmes and the EducationUSA Office.
Uwadileke announced that EducationUSA Nigeria had recently started offering scholarships to high-achieving low-income students.
She added: “This scholarship covers the up-front costs of applying to study in the US, so, there will be no barrier for such students to access the same opportunities.”
