The Kogi Director of Sports, Sunday Daku, has assured the state contingent at the ongoing 2019 5th National Youth Games of the state’s readiness in building and supporting their discovered talented athletes in the various sports.
Daku gave the assurance after the state’s representative in Judo, ThankGod John, was presented with the silver medal he won in the 36kg category fight.
The director, apparently impressed by the performance of the state contingent so far, said that many of the athletes were just participating in the Games for the first time.
Daku, who wasn’t surprised about the araes of talents playing for the state and for other states, noted that “we are putting up measures to enable us bring back our athletes featuring for other states.
He said: “We shall also provide them with all necessary support and as well incorporate them into the state sports system.”
While pleading with politicians, corporate bodies and well to do individuals to support grassroots sports in the state, he urged all athletes at the ongoing Games to be disciplined and give their best.
Daku also assured that the sports council, in partnership with the sports ministry, will look out to develop other sports, so as to enable the state stand a chance in fully competing and winning more medals from competitions.
