Varsity sacks two lecturers for plagiarism

The Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, on Tuesday announced the sack of an Associate Professor and an Assistant Lecturer over alleged plagiarism.
The council, in a statement issued by the Public Relations Directorate of the Vice-Chancellor’s Office in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said the decision was taken at its just concluded 76th Statutory Council Meeting.
Those sacked were Dr. Janet Bamgbose and Akeem Adesina of the Chemistry Department.
Two other lecturers, Dr. Mojisola Nkiko and Dr. Sikiru Ahmed, were demoted from Lecturer I to Lecturer II with effect from May 9.
Olalekan Adebisi, a Senior Clerical Officer of the institution’s Journal/Asset unit, was also sacked for abuse of office.
Omolola Banjo, a Director in the Works and Service Department as well as Vitus Chukwu and Oluwasina Akinbola of the same department, were suspended for three months without pay.
The institution, however, promoted other staff in various departments.
They were 12 Professors and Associate Professors as well as 25 Readers.
When contacted, the Registrar of the institution, Matthew Ayoola, declined comment.
Ayoola said: “I’m a public servant.
“I’m not competent to comment on the matter.”
