Three persons suspected to be armed robbers were on Friday morning burnt to death at Orunu village in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
The News Agency of Nigeria learnt that the armed suspects blocked the Orunu-Idah Road junction and were about to commence their operation.
But unknown to them, the youths of the area, who were disgusted with their nefarious activities, formed vigilance group to protect lives and properties of innocent commuters.
An eyewitness told NAN that the robbers, numbering five, had hardly settled down to business when the youths emerged from different directions and pounced on them.
They seized three of the suspected armed robbers, beat and set them ablaze, while the other two escaped into the bush.
The state Police Public Relations Officer ASP Williams Aya, who confirmed the incident, said the police had recovered the remains of the three suspected robbers and released them to their relations for burial.
Aya said though no arrest had been made, the police are investigating the incident.
