The Plateau State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Tuesday arrested and paraded three suspects involved in illegal mining in the state.
The state Commandant of the NSCDC, Olasupo A. Solomon, paraded the suspects.
Solomon warned the general public to stay clear of embarking on illegal mining activities within the state.
He said following information from NSCDC operatives in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State that illegal miners have resumed mining activities in Mista Ali village, wrecking havoc, the agency swopped on them.
The Commandant, who identified the culprits as Akinga Lamindi, 24; Bitrus Bala, 26; and Anas Aliyu, 29, disclosed that the illegal miners were using harmful equipments to till the ground.
He stressed that the NSCDC has been mandated by the Federal Government to arrest any one not properly licensed to operate.
Solomon said: “They were arrested with some substance in three bags, while few of them on sighting our men escaped into the nearby bushes.
“We are calling on the general public who want to volunteer vital information to our men so as to fish out those that are engaging in this illegal mining of solid minerals in Plateau State and its environs to do so and we also advice those in it to leave illegal activities.”
