Those who defected from PDP made foolish mistake – Yero

Governor Mukhtar Yero of Kaduna State on Monday said members of the Peoples Democratic Party who defected to the All Progressives Congress would regret their actions.
Yero, who said this in Kaduna while swearing-in his Special Adviser, Political Matters, and two Permanent Secretaries, stressed that the defectors had made a “foolish mistake”.
According to him, the challenges in the PDP are not insurmountable but requires continued engagement of all stakeholders for it to be settled amicably.
He said: “It is a foolish mistake to abandon what one has built in search of something uncertain elsewhere.
“Let me advice you, especially those holding political offices, to remain in one place and regard your position today as ordained by God.
“Tomorrow, we will all be forgotten when new people take over the affairs of leadership.
“That is part of life.
“So do not allow yourselves to be lured or deceived into abandoning your party to join the opposition.”
Yero’s admonition follows the defection to the APC of prominent PDP members in the state, including two of its past state chairmen.
At the national level, five of the governors elected on the platform of the PDP have also defected to the APC.
Among the governors that have left the PDP for the APC are Governors Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State and Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State.
To the new permanent secretaries, Yero governor charged them to work effectively in line with the administration’s resolve “to ensure equity, fairness and social justice in the state”.
In a related development, the governor has sworn-in Justice Tanimu Zailani as the substantive Chief Judge of the state.
Zailani succeeded Justice Rahila Cudjoe, who retired after 16 years of service.
He pledged to ensure an improved judicial system and sought for the support of the government and the people to meet the challenges ahead.
