Team Nigeria on Sunday, the last day of the 2018 Africa Senior Athletics Championships in Asaba, clinched three gold medals, increased the country’s gold medal tally to nine.
In the 4×400 metres, Nigeria finished second with a time of 3:25.29 behind Jamaica’s 3:24.00 while Botswana came third finishing with 3:26.86.
The trio made history of some sort in the first round when they became the second Nigerian trio of quartermilers to qualify for the semi-final of the championships after the feat recorded in 2009 by the trio of Folasade Abugan, Sorina Nwachukwu and Amaka Ogoegbunam.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that in Heat 2 of the race, Shaunae Miller-Uibo of Bahrain placed first with a time of 50:97secs at the championships that began on August 4 and will end on August 13.
The competition held from April 22 to April 23 at Nassau, Bahamas
