More than three years after he was dismissed from the Force over allegation of conniving with terrorists of the Boko Haram sect, Zakari Biu, a Commissioner of Police, has been exonerated of the charges.
Biu was exonerated by the Police Service Commission.
A statement from the head of press in the Commission, Ikechukwu Ani, said the decision to exonerate Biu was taken at the end 13th plenary meeting of the Commission held in Abuja.
It said Biu was not culpable as alleged.
Biu was in February 2012 accused of collaborating to effect the escape from Police custody of alleged Boko Haram member, Kabiru Sokoto.
Sokoto was believed to have spearheaded the Christmas day bombing of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Madala, Niger State.
Over 50 persons were killed.
This led to Biu’s dismissal.
The statement by Ani said: “The commission exonerated CP Biu from the issues surrounding the escape of Kabiru Sokoto, an arrested Boko Haram kingpin in Abuja. “CP Zakari Biu appealed against his dismissal, the PSC exonerates him and retires him statutorily.”
