Sodomy: Odumakin leads protest ın Lagos

Dr. Joe Okei-Odumakın, the President of Women Arise, an NGO, on Monday led a protest in Lagos on an alleged sodomy of two women ın Ejıgbo area of the state.
The video of the brutality of the women hit the internet since February 2013.
The video clip showed a group of men in a room forcing the two women to remove their clothes for an alleged stealing of pepper and proceeded to bath them with peppered water.
The men in the clip took turns, beating up the women and were also seen forcing their legs apart to insert a pepper mixture into the women’s private parts.
A presentation of the video at the LTV 8 Auditorium drew tears from many of those present before the protesters formally commenced the walk to the state House of Assembly.
Okei-Odumakin explained that the group got hold of the video a few weeks ago.
She said: “We saw the clip on December 7 and immediately began investigation into the matter.
“The protest today is to draw attention to the rising violence against women and the need to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“As a non-governmental organısatıon, Women Arıse has witnessed a lot of violence against women but this clip sends chills up the spines of all who watched it.
“It is unbelievable that in this century, such horrific act can be carried out against anyone for an alleged stealing of pepper.
“The level of jungle justice by men yet to be identified is not something that can be swept under the carpet.
“The woman and her step daughter seen in the clip with the men, who got them naked opening their legs and inserting bottles filled with pepper, are yet to be located.
“We understand they have left the area but we assure you that they will be traced and all those involved in dehumanising them brought to justice.”
While presenting the group’s petition to Hon. Kolawole Taiwo, the Lagos House of Assembly Deputy Speaker, Odumakin stressed the need for the House to intervene and bring justice to the women.
“This is certainly one issue that will not die until justice is done,” she said.
The deputy speaker assured the protesters that the House would begin deliberations on the matter and would mandate one of its committees to take it up.
Taiwo said: “I want to assure you that all the people involved in this matter will be invited to the House and that the issue will be resolved soon.”
