The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State, Felix Obuah, on Monday led his team to the party’s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, on a solidarity visit, urging him to put machinery in place for the expulsion of the seven governors that have joined the New PDP.
Fielding questions from newsmen, Obuah accused Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State of influencing other governors to join the new PDP, vowing never to submit his mandate, even if doing so will resolve the political crisis in the state.
He expressed the view that the crisis rocking the party is artificial, insisting that the governors involved should be made to pay for their action by being expelled for anti-party activities.
Obuah said: “Those crises are man-made.
“Before now, those six governors had been going from one place to another in their personal interests.
“Our personal interests should not override our national interest.
“Their interest cannot override the interest of the nation.
“What happened at Eagle Square is a manifestation of what I have said prior to this period that they are already out.
“They are working with APC, PDM, VOP.
“These parties are being financed by these governors championed by Amaechi.
“They are playing anti-party activities.
“If I was chairman, I could have expelled them from the party because the bible said if one hand would make you sin, cut it off.
“In my state, all those people who want to play anti-party activities, we have made sure we have given them room to leave.
“I would ask them to leave and give them the proper place to be so that people who are around would make sure PDP wins any day, any time.
“That no matter the money Amaechi spends in Rivers, the state remains a PDP state.
“I can bet any day, any time.”
According to Obuah, Amaechi belongs to the opposition and is one of their major financiers.
He said: “For the governor to say he is supporting the (Alhaji Abubakar) Baraje-led group, how can you support illegality?
“I have said it times without number that this man is always in opposition states.
“Every time opposition are always visiting him and for him to come and say he is supporting a dissident group, that is to show that he is supporting opposition party.
“And some of them have said they are ready to leave our party.
“Before now, I have told our people that his (Amaechi) soul and spirit is not with us, only his face is in PDP.
“Amaechi and co are not in PDP.
“They are part of those sponsoring opposition and I stand to be corrected.”
Asked if he would be willing to relinquish his position in the interest of a peaceful resolution of the crisis that has engulfed Rivers State, Obuah said: “That is exactly what I am saying.
“I will not stay aside because the people elected me.
“The power belongs to the people.
“I cannot give up my mandate for Amaechi.”
