No fewer than 200 persons have been rendered homeless by rainstorm that wrecked havoc in Etua-Oliogo, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State.
The storm did not spare their only Etua-Ise Primary School building, Community Town-Hall, solar-powered water scheme, a new generation church and some economic trees.
The Eagle Online gathered that the rain, which started at about 7.30pm on Saturdaynight, came with terrifying thunder, lightening and whirlwind.
It affected most of the mud houses in the area before blowing off the roofs of the school, the town hall, the church and destroyed the community’s solar powered water scheme.
Some residential buildings were not also spared as many slept outside their homes on the fateful night.
The Youth Chairman of the community, Reuben Ekpetor, who appealed to public spirited individuals, begged the state government to immediately intervene by bringing succour to the victims, who are mostly farmers.
A chief in the community, Samuel Chime, who lamented the disaster, wondered why the tragedy befell the community.
Chime said: “Such wanton destruction of properties worth millions of naira had never been witnessed in the history of this community.”
According to him, the victims had gone through the stress of sleeping in the cold harmattan, urging the State Emergency Management Agency and the local government chairman to step up the process to cushion the effect of the devastation.
The councillor representing the area, Frank Ukpe, and the Supervisor for Works in the council, Andrew Obi, assured the victims of quick intervention.
