The Niger State Government has declared February 5 and 6 as work free days to enable eligible voters collect their Permanent Voter Cards ahead of the general elections.
A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babangida Aliyu, Israel Ayegba Ebije, said the two days holiday is to enable eligible voters collect PVCs before the new deadline of February 8 set by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Ebije said the state government is resolved to ensure nobody is disenfranchised on account of failure to collect PVCs.
He added that the work free days will enable people to collect their PVCs within the limited time frame.
The governors’ spokesman while noting that Federal Government establishments and business organizations are not part of the work free holiday, urged Niger State civil servants to use the period to mobilize people at the grassroots to collect their PVCs.
He therefore called on those who have earlier registered for their PVCs to go and get them at designated collection points adding that they should not repeat mistakes made in previous elections where voter cards were abandoned by registered voters.
The Edo State Government has also declared February 5 and 6, 2015 as work-free days for the collection of the PVCs.
The state government said this was to avail people of the state the opportunity to collect their PVCs for the general elections holding later this month.
In Imo State, the two days have also been set aside for the same purpose.
