An Assistant Commissioner of Police, James Idachaba, who is a lawyer, has been compulsorily retired following the discovery that he was still serving in the Force when he should have retired.
The ACP was retired by the Police Service Commission following the shocking discovery of having overstayed in service.
The spokesman of the PSC, Ikechukwu Ani, who confirmed the incident to our reporter, said: “He got the punishment of compulsory retirement and he is to repay all wrong entitlements received for eight years.”
The Lawyer was said to have falsified his age just so he could continue to work as a policeman in the Force, collecting salary and other entitlements meant for an officer of the ranks of ACP.
According to sources, Idachaba was above 60 years, but had continued to be less because he had doctored his records.
Our reporter gathered that the Idachaba before the PSC discovered his shenanigans and swept him out of the Force, was the Officer-in-Charge of the Legal Department, Federal Capital Territory Police Command.
How the ACP was discovered is yet unknown, but in the course of investigating him, the investigating team visited his formers postings, including Plateau State Police Command, where he claimed to have worked as a Chief Superintendent of Police between 1987 and 1995.
The investigating team further requested the Certified True Copy of Idachaba’s letter of posting to the command, details of his documentation as contained in the documentation register, Gen60 Form of the Officer (if any) or Attestation Form and any other information that may assist the ongoing investigation.
Ani had earlier mentioned in a statement: “The commission, during the plenary, also approved the compulsory retirement of an Assistant Commissioner and directed a refund of all entitlements wrongly paid to him.”

Ani added: “The PSC took the decisions during its 21st Plenary Meeting presided over by retired Justice Clara Ogunbiyi, a retired judge.”
Asked what will happen if the ACP does not refund all the entitlements wrongly paid to him, Ani said: “The IGP is the one handling the implementation of the Commission’s decision and will do the same in this case.”
