Police arrest robbers months after operation

The police operatives attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad, Zone 2 Command, have arrested some suspected armed robbers and burglars several months after their robbery operations through the use of some of the mobile phones stolen from the victims of their operations in Lagos and Ogun States.
The operatives had been intimated of the robbery operations of the suspects, who had been terrorising residents of more than 15 communities in Ogun and Lagos States.
This was especially more so in Arigbajo area of Ogun State, where they robbed one of the residents (name withheld) who reported their criminal acts to the police.
The resident said even his stolen phone was being used by the robbers.
The suspected armed robbers were placed under surveillance by the Zonal Intervention Squad before they were eventually arrested on September 25, 2016.
The police operatives, who swung into action and worked with police ICT experts and through detailed investigation arrested one Lekan Akinola, whose arrest led to the arrest of other members of the robbery syndicate.
Others arrested included Mutiu Oyekan, Akeem Sanusi, Olahusi Rasaq, Kazeem Oladipupo, Waheed Amusan and four others.
They were arrested in the hideouts in Lagos and Ogun States.
The suspects have confessed to have carried out robbery operations at Abata, Ifo, Ewekoro, Mowe, Adigebe in Abeokuta, Iju Ota, Alakuko and Agege in Lagos State.
Items recovered from them included refrigerators, laptops, plasma TV sets, generators, wears, electrical appliances and their operational vehicle, a Mazda Bus with registration number Lagos BDG 602 XM.
Some of the victims of their various robbery operations have identified the suspects and their stolen items recovered by the police.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Command, Lagos, Abdulmajid Ali, has commended the police operatives for their commitment and detailed investigation that led to the arrest of the suspects.
Ali has therefore directed that the suspects be charged to court without delay, while the fleeing members of the gang be apprehended immediately.
The AIG reiterated his zeal and readiness to get the zone rid of criminals and hoodlums who may want to truncate the security network put in place for Lagos and Ogun States.
