People seeking money from politics can’t go far, says David Mark

The Senate President, Senator David Mark, has declared that any politician seeking financial fortune in politics cannot go far because the people cannot be misled for long.
Mark pointedly declared that any politician who is not ready to sacrifice for the service of the people must quit politics.
The Senate president made the declaration at the weekend at Igumale in Ado Local Government Area of Benue State, after being conferred with the traditional title of Ogblonekwu-Egidi (the only tree big enough to cover the forest) and his wife, Helen, as the Ofianya (a woman greater than her peers), by the paramount ruler of Igumaleland, the Ochapa of Igumale, Chief Joseph Ochili,
Mark therefore challenged the political class and all public office seekers to make service to the society the primary motive of their ambitions.
According to him: “Service to humanity is my driving force in politics.”
He maintained that any political ambition not anchored on that premise of providing adequate security and welfare for the people was bound to hit the rocks.
Mark, in a statement on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Paul Mumeh, said: “Those looking for financial fortune in politics cannot go far because the people cannot be misled for long.
“Anybody who is not ready to sacrifice for the service of the people must quit politics.”
The Senate president, who was represented by his wife, Helen, at the event, said the chieftaincy tittles conferred on them would spur them to continue to serve the people diligently, honestly, fairly and with the fear of God.
Mark pointed out that he would remain grateful and indeed indebted for what he described as show of love and solidarity, which he said was a manifestation that he had impacted positively on the lives of the people.
His words: “In whom much is given, much is equally expected.
“As one of you, together we shall strive to continue to contribute our own quota to the overall development of Idomaland, Benue State and the nation at large.”
He explained that the decision to establish a community school in the area was a welcome development, adding: “Education is an instrument through which we can extricate our people from the shackles of ignorance, poverty, diseases and underdevelopment.”
Mark expressed optimism that with the establishment of the school, moral upbringing, which many schools had jettisoned, would be accorded a great priority.
Also conferred with chieftaincy titles were the Minister of Interior, Abba Moro; and the Chairman of Nigeria Television Authority, Chief Patrick Ogbu.
