The one-week old industrial strike embarked upon by the Oyo State workers has shut down social and economic activities at the Agodi Secretariat in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that most offices and business concerns at the secretariat were deserted as workers embarked on the strike.
Among the offices where human presence could not be noticed were Ministries of Sports, Establishment, Agriculture, Science and Technology, Local Government Service Commission and Health.
Also, all the Business Centres, Licensing Office and photocopy shops within the secretariat were securely locked.
The strike equally had negative impacts on restaurants located within the secretariat and its annex.
Speaking on the effect of the strike on the populace, Sayo Adedeji, who came for drivers’ licence processing, complained bitterly about the industrial action.
“I don’t know when this strike will end so that I can secure my drivers’ licence,” Adedeji said.
Kehinde Adebisi, a young girl, who sells GSM cards at the secretariat, told NAN that her business had been affected by the strike.
“Before the strike, I used to sell very well when I move round the offices, but now I can’t make as much,” Adebisi said.
Sola Adeyeye, a journalist at the Press Centre, who complained about the closure of most restaurants, said that he could not find a place to eat.
“This strike is not helping matters since we cannot get a place where we can eat,” Adeyeye said.
However, apart from government business, the day-to-day running of governance has been badly affected as most civil servants stay away from their duty posts.
It would be recalled that last week Monday, the Oyo State Nigeria Labour Congress announced an industrial action, calling on workers to stay away from work.
