Oyo begins preparations for 2014 sports festival

Oyo State has kicked-off the preparations for the 2014 National Sports Festival billed for Cross Rivers State.
This was after the meeting between the state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Adedapo Lam-Adesina, and members of all sports associations in the state.
The meeting, which officially kick-started the state’s preparations for the Festival of Sports was at the instance of the Lam-Adesina to roll out plans for Oyo State’s participation at the games.
Addressing the meeting, Lam-Adesina emphasised the determination of the Oyo State Government to make a big statement in Cross Rivers 2014, which he said necessitated the resolve to start preparations ahead now.
He charged members of all sporting associations to join hands with the state government to realize this dream by ensuring they work hard to sustain the developmental tempo now that the state is reclaiming her pacesetter status in sports.
The commissioner, who also addressed state coaches and athletes at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan re-assured them of government’s support at all times, while emphasizing Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s readiness to reward good performance in line with the transformational agenda of the state government.
He said the state has lined up various competitions to prepare the athletes ahead of Cross Rivers 2014 Games, with improved welfare packages lined up for the contract staff too.
Members of the sporting associations in their response, thanked the commissioner for his vision for sports in the state, promising to work hard at ensuring the state does well at the games and other sporting competitions.
