Fundamental issues concerning Nigeria, her democracy and the economy will come to the fore as erudite lawyers and renowned economists are set for an insightful discuss on March 24, 2014 at the inaugural debate organised by The Oxford and Cambridge Club of Nigeria.
Slated to take place at the Agip Recital Hall, Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, the Oxbridge Debate, under the Chairmanship of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi, will feature four accomplished subject-matter experts who, together with the chairman, are all members of the Oxford and Cambridge Club of Nigeria.
The debaters are Dr. Bright Okogu, the Director General of the Budget Office of the Federation; Demola Akinrele (SAN), Senior Partner of FO Akinrele & Co; Dr. Ayo Teriba, the CEO of Economic Associates; and Prof. Fidelis Oditah (QC, SAN), the Senior Partner of ODITAH & Co.
They will each speak on the topic: “Nigeria, Democracy and The Economy.”
The Moderator will be Prof. Konyin Ajayi (SAN), the Managing Partner of Olaniwun Ajayi LP, and also a member of the club.
According to a statement by the President of Oxford and Cambridge Club of Nigeria, Akinfela Akoni, the inaugural debate was created as a platform for the club “to contribute positively to nation-building by encouraging debate on social and economic issues in Nigeria, and to enable and advance intellectual discussions on pertinent matters affecting Nigeria”.
The debate is also aimed at promoting knowledge sharing among Nigerians.
Oxford and Cambridge Club of Nigeria, a non-political organisation, is an alumni association of the Oxford University and Cambridge University of United Kingdom.
It organises business forum, lectures and thought leadership events, which are attended by notable individuals and international personalities.
Other current executives of the club are Dr. Timi Austen-Peters (Vice President), Uche Okoli (Vice President), Michael Orimobi (Hon. Secretary), Ike Chioke (Hon. Treasurer), Adeola Egbeyemi (Membership Secretary), Adekunle Adebiyi (Social Secretary), Nkiru Asika, Sesu Tilley-Gyado and Prof. Bomi Ogedengbe (each as ex-officio members).
Membership of The Oxford and Cambridge Club of Nigeria is open to any resident of Nigeria or Nigerian who graduated from either the University of Oxford or the University of Cambridge.
