Though the Independent National Electoral Commission is yet to officially declare the incumbent and governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, as duly elected in Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State, the full results collated as at press time showed he has emerged the winner.
Aregbesola floored his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Iyiola Omisore, in 22 local government areas out of the 30 local government areas in the state.
Omisore only won in eight local government areas.
None of the other 18 political parties that took part in the election had any impressive showing.
Omisore, however, had complained before the commencement of the announcement of the results that Aregbesola and and APC violated the Electoral Law 2010 by declaring the results before the official announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said this was to pre-determine the outcome of the election.
As at press time, the INEC was compiling the results as declared by all its local government areas Electoral Officers.
