Ongoing anti-corruption war lacks transparency – PDP Senators

Senators elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday‎ alleged that the ongoing anti-corruption war in the country lacks transparency.

The senators said it was targeted at PDP stalwarts.

The PDP caucus, which expressed dissatisfaction with what it termed the selective anti-corruption war, also condemned alleged molestation of electoral umpire in Abia, Rivers and Akwa Ibom States.

Speaking in company of PDP senators, the Minority leader of Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, vowed to drag the Department of State Services to former Head of States, retired General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who chaired the peace committee set up during elections.

Akpabio said the PDP was happy with the war on corruption as articulated by the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government, adding: “However, the caucus is not happy with current trend that seems to suggest that the war against corruption is selective and targeted at PDP stalwart and states.

“The current war lacks transparency, fairness to all and appears to be aimed at political adversaries.

“It is on this ground that we condemn in particular what is happening in Akwa Ibom, Rivers and Abia States where election umpires are dail‎y arrested, their families and associates hounded and judicial officers involved in election tribunals intimidated and questioning using trumped up petitions bordering on corruption.

“Yet, these officials were part of the 2015 elections that produced President Muhammadu Buhari, an election adjudged to be generally free and fair by the international community.”
