The North Central Zonal Co-ordinator of the National Film and Video Censors Board, Ailewon Paul Danlami, has vowed to eradicate the activities of pirates in the zone.
Danlami disclosed this on Wednesday during a courtesy call to the Plateau State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.
He emphasizes the harm of infringement to copyright holders in the movie industry and promised to with the NUJ towards sensitizing the general public on the danger of piracy.
According to him, the visit was aimed at seeking the collaboration of NUJ members in the area of fight against infringement of rights, which results in commercial loss to original producers.
Danlami said plans have reach advanced stage to release the blueprint on how to control the activities of pirates and fake video producers in Northern Nigeria.
The zonal coordinator explained that following consultation with experts on copyright, meetings have been going on with the police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on the need to arrest the perpetrators of fake products.
Danlami warned that there is a mobile court on ground to try offenders who are found to have directly infringed on the copyrights law.
The Chairman Nigeria Union of Journalists, Katdapba Gobum, commended the zonal coordinator for the visit.
Gobum assured him of the NUJ’s readiness to strengthen the existing cooperation with the NFVCB.
He condemned the idea where some people will not do the right thing but want to benefit from the sweat of others.
He appealed to the general public to be aware of the activities of infringers on others’ work.
