Mighty Jets highly motivated to win league – Technical Chairman

With the management of Mighty Jets FC of Jos adequately remunerating the players, the club’s Technical Chairman, Noel Aywila, has promised  they would win the 2017/2018 Nigeria National League.
Aywila, who made the assertion while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria on Wednesday in Jos, said the club’s management was willing to go the extra mile to motivate the players to put in their best.
He said that the players were well remunerated and the package had helped to boost their morale for the task ahead.
The chairman told NAN that salaries were paid promptly, a development that had made the players to stay committed and consistent in their training.
Aywila said the players had played 14 friendly matches so far and they had won 13 matches and drew one match in preparation for the competition that would kick off on March 31.
He advised the players to put in their best in the next season and assured them that all they would need would be provided by the management.
Meanwhile, Bernard Ogbe, the club’s Technical Adviser, told NAN that formal training had started since January 4 and that the players had been responding well to his drills.
Ogbe said: “We are preparing for two major competition, the league and the Federation Cup and so far, the players have being putting in their best.’’
NAN reports that the club founded in 1970 plays it home matches at the 15,000 capacity Rwang Pam Stadium in Jos.
They were the first winners of the Nigerian Premier League in 1972. They played at the top level until 1985. They were further demoted to the third division in 1994, spending three seasons there before regaining promotion to the second division in 1997.
The Jets’ last time in the Premier League was a one-year stint in 2004. They finished at the bottom of the 18-team table with 28 points (7 wins, 7 ties and 20 losses) and then lost a promotion playoff against rivals Wikki Tourists when the league expanded to 20 teams.
The season was worsened by their banishment to Owerri the last half of the season after crowd trouble.
With a new board of directors in place in 2016, the club is targeting promotion to the Nigeria professional Football League. Some of Mighty Jets former players now play in the top flight.
In the African Football Confederation competitions, Mighty jets made only an appearance in the African Cup of champions Clubs in 1973 and were out in the second round.
It also appeared once in the CAF Cup Winners Cup in 1975 but was sent home in the first round.
