President of the Senate, Senator David Mark; the Peoples Democratic Party governors in the North Central zone; two former national chairmen of the party, Chief Solomon Lar and Senator Ahmadu Ali; as well as other stakeholders have met in Abuja to harmonise positions ahead of the forthcoming national convention of the party billed for March 24, 2012.
The emergency meeting held in the official residence of Mark in Abuja on Monday night, was to consider national positions zoned to the North Central and allocate to the states in the zone equitably ostensibly to achieve a consensus.
Already, the positions of National Legal Adviser, National Youth Leader, Deputy National Woman Leader, ex-officio member and National Vice Chairman for the zone have been given to the North Central.
At the stakeholders meeting held on monday night, the people agreed to work as a team in order to bring dividends of democracy to their citizens.
In his opening remarks, Mark noted that the zone is synonymous with PDP and would remain united in order to attract dividends of democracy to the people.
Those in attendance at the parley were the acting National Chairman, Abubakar Baraje; Lar; Ali; governors Gabriel Suswam of Benue State, Aliyu Babangida of Niger State, Ahmed Abdulfatah of Kwara State and Jonah Jang of Plateau State; and the Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Yomi Awoniyi.
Others were a former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu; the Minister of Interior, Abba Morro; his Trade and Investment counterpart, Samuel Ortom; senators and House of Representatives members from the zone; and state party chairmen.
The incumbent National Vice Chairman, North Central, Alhaji Yusuf Ayitogo, commended the people of the zone for remaining steadfast with the PDP, assuring them that the leadership of the party is more than ever before determined to bring development to the door steps of all Nigerians.
The North Central PDP zonal convention to ratify positions, according to Ayitogo, is billed for March 21, 2012, in Makurdi, Benue State.
