Mark, Kalu condemn attack on Emir of Kano

The President of the Senate, Senator David Mark; and a former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, have condemned the attack on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
Mark and Kalu described the attack on Bayero as mindless and a violent assault on the respected traditional institution.
Mark, who was saddened by renewed violence in Kano and some other states, urged security agencies to once again rise to the challenge of these gruesome acts by ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book.
He lamented the incessant incident of gun attacks as well as the activities of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, which target innocent individuals in the society and reiterated his call on Nigerians who have information about the hideouts of the attackers to make such available to security agencies.
Mark reiterated his call to those behind these dastardly act to sheathe their swords and embrace peace in the interest of the nation.
He said: “If their designs and actions are genuine, they should embrace the dialogue option canvassed by every notable Nigerian.”
The President of the Senate condoled the families of the driver and guards that lost their lives in the attack to take heart and leave vengeance to God and charged the Emir not to relent in his selfless contributions to his immediate subjects, Kano State and the nation in its entirety.
Kalu described those behind the attack on Bayero as mindless.
Kalu, in a statement on Sunday in reaction to Saturday’s attack on Alhaji Bayero’s convoy, which left no fewer than four persons dead, said the attack also amounted to a disrespect for the traditional institution, which the referred monarch represents.
Kalu, in the statement signed by his Special Adviser, Oyekunle Oyewunmi, called on the relevant authorities to bring those behind the attack to book.
He said: “It is unimaginable that Alhaji Bayero, who is fully in support of the return of peace to the North that stands troubled because of the numerous crisis facing the region will be the target of the attackers.
“Those behind the attack must, indeed, be mindless.
“How can a man of peace become the object of attack in a situation as this?”
Kalu commiserated with Bayero on the loss of four dear ones, including his driver and orderly, urging him to take solace in the fact that it is only God that gives and takes life and that they have become martyrs in the process of finding a lasting solution to the crisis in the North.
He prayed for the repose of the souls of the dead and urged Bayero not to give up the peace process.
