LG poll: Low turn out as Atiku, Tukur, other political bigwigs absent

The local government elections holding in Adamawa State on Saturday (today) appears to be headed for a low turn out, The Eagle Online is reporting.
As at the time of filing this report at about 1:30pm, the turn out of voters was low.
The popular Unit 002 in Ajiya Ward of Yola North Local Government Area, where former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; and other prominent politicians resident in Yola, the State capital, vote, was virtually empty.
Both Abubakar and Tukur did not show up to cast their votes.
In the unit, only the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Hon. Mohammed Bello, showed up at exactly 11:30am to register and cast his vote.
Bello said the process was normal and smooth.
At about 10:15am in a polling unit in Bako Ward inside Yelwa Secondary School, where a former gubernatorial candidate of the PDP, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, do cast his vote, there were scanty voters when compared to previous elections.
A woman who just voted said: “I only managed to come for vote because of simple solidarity.
“Salaries are not paid to encourage people for the election.”
Information from other Local Government Areas such as Michika, Guyuk, Madagali and Shelleng revealed that some insensitive materials for the election are yet to reach those areas.
They are also experiencing low turn out of people to cast their votes.
According to a senior government official who does not want his name mentioned, Lamurde, Numan and Demsa were sent incomplete materials by the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission.
He said those areas may require extension of voting period.
