The Lagos State Police Rapid Response Squad on Monday said it has transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency four suspected drug traffickers it arrested on Sunday.
The RRS Commander, ACP Olatunji Disu, made the disclosure in a statement on Monday.
Disu said 18 bags of weed, suspected to be Indian Hemp, that was recovered, was also handed over to the NDLEA for further investigation.
The statement added that the arrest was made on Sunday after a tip off from Governor Akinwunmi Ambode on the activities of the suspects.
It said the suspects belonged to a gang of Narcotic drug traffickers involved in other violent crimes around Oyingbo-Otto and its environs.
The statement said: “When we got the information, we immediately swung into action by bursting the area where the suspects were arrested.
“The operatives during the special operation, arrested Quadri Jimoh, 23, Tajudeen Busari, 33, Ukowa Udomma, 34, and Yakubu Mudashiru, 30.
“One man later identified as Olumide, aka Aroso, who is said to be the gang leader, who also deals in various drug substances, escaped.”
It noted, however, that two of the suspects, Quadri Jimoh and Tajudeen Busari, insisted that they were victims of circumstances as they knew nothing about the Indian-hemp found in the building.
The statement said Jimoh, who claimed to be a conductor, claimed he was on his way to buy medications for his pregnant wife when he was arrested.
The statement said two others suspects confessed that they were not the actual dealers of the drug, but they only smoke, identifying Olumide, who is now at large, as dealer of the recovered Indian Hemp.
It advised the general public to always furnish the police with timely and true information.
