The Kano State House of Assembly has approved a request by Governor Abdullahi Ganduje to obtain a loan facility of N20 billion from the state’s bailout to attend to some financial challenges affecting the state.
Alhaji Abubakar Zakari, the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Economic Development, said this while presenting the Committee’s report on the governor’s request.
Zakari said the House approved Ganduje’s request after the Committee thoroughly studied the proposal.
Zakari added that after studying and analysing the request, the House found that there was the need for the state government to obtain the loan.
The chairman said the governor, in his letter to the House, said the loan, if approved, would enable the state government to pay pensioners.
Ganduje, he added, said the loan would also assist the state government to pay salaries of newly employed health workers and other civil servants.
According to him, the House also recommended that the state government should prepare and forward to it a supplementary budget of the bailout funds.
This, he said, became necessary for the House to legislate and subsequently approve the loan before any disbursement could be effected.
Zakari said the bailout introduced by President Muhammadu Buhari was to ensure that all state governors paid pending financial challenges in their states.
He said without the loan, the present government in the state might not be able to deliver some of its campaign promises.
“The House also advised the state government to ensure judicious spending of the fund for the said purpose,” Zakari said.
