Following persuasions and negotiations by governors and other leaders of the All Progressives Congress, six other aspirants for the office of the national chairman have agreed to step down for Abdullahi Adamu.
Senator Adamu, a former Nasarawa State Governor, is the preferred candidate of President Muhammadu Buhari.
It was learnt that the meetings in which the aspirants agreed to withdraw from the race held till the early hours of Saturday.
Till present, there is no formal announcement with respect to the agreement and withdrawal by the six aspirants.
Apart from Adamu, the other six aspirants for the position of national chairman are ex-Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura, ex-Benue State Governor George Akume, ex-Zamfara State Governor Abdul’aziz Yari, Kwara State politician Saliu Mustapha, Nasarawa State Senator Sani Musa, and Muhammed Etsu.
Earlier on Saturday, Senator Muhammed Sanni had announced his withdrawal from the race.
