The International Olympic Committee revoked a 14-month suspension on the Indian Olympic Association on Tuesday, paving the way for India’s return to the Olympic fold.
IOA Spokesman, Sandeep Mehta, made this known in New Delhi.
The decision came two days after the IOA held elections in accordance with IOC directions.
The IOC suspended the Indian Olympic Association for allowing officials facing corruption charges to contest the elections in December 2012, saying it went against the Olympic charter.
Mehta said: “The ban on IOA has been lifted on an immediate basis.
“We have received a communication from the IOC just sometime back.”
The three Indians competing in the winter Olympics at Sochi could not take part in the opening ceremony with the Indian flag.
The lifting of the ban means that the flag would be part of the closing ceremony.
