The National Secretary of the Labour Party, Kayode Ajulo, on Friday urged politicians to stop apportioning blames over the insurgency in Nigeria and to assist the Federal Government in finding solutions.
Also, a former Governor of Ogun State, Chief Segun Osoba, has called for tougher measures against insurgency to eliminate it in the interest of all Nigerians.
The two politicians spoke in Lagos on the sidelines of the launch of a biography of a renowned cleric, Pastor Tunde Bakare.
The biography: “Moment of Truth,” was written by a journalist, Victorson Agnenson.
Ajulo said that politicians, irrespective of their parties, should join in the fight against insurgency rather than politicising it, noting that the effects of the menace were being felt by all Nigerians.
He said: “Politicians must guard their utterances from now and do whatever it will take to assist in arresting the situation.
“The dangers looming will consume all.
“To ensure peace, no price should be too much to pay.”
Ajulo called for an urgent all-embracing political summit on insurgency with a view to finding solutions.
He added: “We are going for general elections and must meet to find solutions.
“We need not apportion blames.
“If we must beg, we should beg to ensure peace.”
Ajulo said that law and order must return to the North East to enable it to be part of the general elections.
Commenting, Osoba urged the Federal Government and security agencies to intensify efforts to end insurgency.
He said that all Nigerians should show concern about the situation in the North East and contribute to its eradication.
