ICPC Chairman commends Buhari on appointments into agency’s board

The Chairman of Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) Prof Bolaji Owasanoye, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari on the new appointments into the commission’s board.

Owasanoye made the commendation Wednesday while speaking at a reception meeting at the commission’s headquarters with the five new board members after their swearing-in by President Buhari.

“President Muhammadu Buhari deserves commendation for identifying people with rich backgrounds in the public sector for appointments into the board,” he said.

The new board members include Sen. Anthony Agbo from Ebonyi, representing the South-East zone and Anne Odey from Cross River, representing the South-South zone.

Others are Alhaji Goni Gujba from Yobe, representing the North-East, Dr Louis Mandama from Adamawa, also representing the North-East, and retired Assistant Inspector-General of Police Olugbenga Adeyanju from Ekiti, representing the South-West.

The ICPC chairman enjoined the new board members to utilise their proven integrity and experience in achieving the commission’s mandate, adding that the appointments have changed their status.

“ICPC is an integrity organisation and the standard here is higher than the normal. What others do and get away with, if we do it, it will be big news.

“Your status has changed with your appointment and I am happy that all of you have a rich stint in public service.

“We have a rich blend that will help us achieve the mandate of the commission. We should not get administration wrong when we have a rich blend of professional administrators to guide our mandate,” he said.

The new board members who took turns to speak expressed their readiness to help combat corruption and project the good image of the country.

Gujba assured the new members would add more value to the commission, noting that they were coming from different parts of the country with diverse experiences.

He pleaded for cooperation and patience from the chairman and the old board members to enable them work as a family towards achieving the goals of the commission.
