A former Governor of Cross River State, Donald Duke, has accused the All Progressives Congress of using his image in the documentaries for its presidential candidate for the 2023 elections, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Duke, who wondered if he could get justice in the matter, spoke at a roundtable with Editors recently in Lagos.
The roundtable, on: “The accountability imperative: Holding politicians’ feet ti the fire,” was organised by Front Fort Media Initiative and MacArthur Foundation.
Duke said the APC and its campaign team used his photograph as a 12-year-old as that of Tinubu in a documentary titled: “The nation builder.”
The documentary referenced by Duke was televised by Television Continental and also uploaded on various YouTube Channels to narrate Tinubu’s life history, childhood, education, political journey and achievements in the public and private sectors.
Duke, a member of the PDP, said at the roundtable: “On the other hand, we have my friend and colleague, Bola.
“We were debating about drugs, that is the focus of the discussion.
“Drugs, his resume, what school did he go, who are his classmates….
“Interestingly, there is a new documentary that has been produced and it is titled: ‘The nation builder.’
“And it is on Bola Tinubu.
“His years in Chicago, his exploits, what a wonderful student he was, fine.
“My disagreement is that my photograph as a 12-year-old is used as his photograph.
“In other words, they couldn’t find his photograph as a young person and they now take my own photograph, which I took as a 12-year-old in Sokoto.
“I don’t think you have seen the photograph.
“I have it on my phone.
“I will share it with you.
“That photo was taken when I was 12 years old during my school years at the Federal Government College, Sokoto in Sokoto State.
“I don’t know if I can get justice on this, but I feel very pained that that poise I had as a 12-year-old is now being used for political….”
Duke said it was disappointing that the level of debate in politics has dropped so low that people vying for political offices are not discussing issues that directly affect the people they want to govern.
