The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti will this month, commence admission into 20 departments of the programmes recently approved by the National Universities Commission for the ivory tower.
This is part of the Prof. Abayomi Fasina-led administration’s laudable efforts to expand admission opportunities to the teeming Nigerian youths and working class citizens seeking qualitative university education.
A statement by the Special Adviser on Media Matters to the Vice-Chancellor, Wole Balogun, which was made available to newsmen in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend, disclosed that the Director of the FUOYE Institute of Part Time Studies, Prof. Abiodun Ajiboye, had made the announcement to the public.
Ajiboye said the exercise shall commence in the second week of May, 2021.
Ajiboye’s statement read in part: “The Institute of part time studies is the brainchild of the VC, Prof. Abayomi Fashina who sees this as an opportunity to expand admission opportunities to our teeming admission seekers and working class people in order for them to have access to tertiary education in Ekiti State and beyond.
“The appointments of Prof A A Ajiboye and Dr Adeleke Omolade as the pioneer Director and Deputy Director respectively is a round peg in a round hole going by the tremendous achievements recorded by the duo within the shortest possible time.
“Firstly, approval had been obtained from NUC for 20 programmes in the university. Secondly , curricular have been developed for all the programmes and Coordinators had also been appointed for each program in the various departments. Thirdly, the application forms will soon be available online for the prospective students.
“FUOYE’s Part Time programmes mode of operation is unique and quite flexible in that there are two major types of the programmes that would be run by the Institute: first is the regular Part Time undergraduate degree programmes where students will be having their lectures between 1pm and 8pm on a daily basis (7 contact hour).
“Second is the weekly part time undergraduate degree programmes where students will be having lectures on weekends, that is, Fridays and Saturdays
“The two programmes will be domiciled on the main campuses of the institution in Oye-Ekiti and Ikole-Ekiti for now. The regular daily part- time undergraduate degree programmes have the same duration of years corresponding with full time programmes (i.e 4 years to 4 years or 5 years to 5 years) while the weekly undergraduate part time programme has one year extension to the corresponding full time programme duration ( i.e 4 years to 5 years or 5 years to 6 years).
“Application into both programmes will commence second week in May, 2021. The institute hopes to start the academic programmes in the next 2020/2021academic session. The Director and his deputy are very grateful for the support of the VC and the university management. The VC has a vision to transform the university to an enviable height among universities in the country and across the globe.
Consequently, all stakeholders in the university are enjoined to key into and support this vision.”
The 20 approved programmes for the part time studies according to the SA’ statement are B.SC Agric Economics and Extension, B.SC Food Science and Technology; B.SC Soil Science and Land Management; B.SC Sociology, B.SC Banking and Finance ; B.SC Political Science and B.SC Psychology.
Others are B.A English and Literary Studies, B.A History and lnternational Studies, B.A Religious Studies, B.A Theatre and Media Arts, B.SC Demography and Social Statistics as well as B.SC Peace and Conflict Resolutions.
Also approved are B.SC Public Administration; B.SC Water Resources Management and Agro Meteorology, B.A Linguistics and Languages, B.Sc Animal Production and Health, B.Sc lnternational Relations; BSc Economics and Development Studies, B.Sc and Sociology.
