Family of Bamise is yet to get justice since the murder of late Bamise Ayanwola inside Lagos State Government Bus Rapid Transport on February 26, 2022.
Founder , Document Our Histories, DOHS foundation, Lolade Ajayi, on Saturday, November 30th, called on stakeholders and government to prevent intentional killing of women and children in Nigeria during a 5km walk to create awareness against femicide in Lagos.
Ajayi said the walk is to seek justice for relations and victims of femicide, as well as to ensure that authorities do not pervert justice.
Speaking at the 5Km walk, Damilola Ayanwola, the sister of the BRT Bus rape and murder victim, Bamise Ayanwola, in an emotional state, said the family has been in court and yet to get justice for her deceased sister.
“Yesterday, we were at the court, and the defence counsel refused to come. The Judge adjourned the hearing to January 30, 2025”, Ayanwola said.
Ayanwola recounted how her sister, who was allegedly raped, murdered and went missing until her remains were found nine days after the BRT bus incident, made a distress call to a member of the family while on the bus on this fateful night before the eventuality.

In preventing femicide, Ajayi emphasized that her foundation is using data activism as a means to prevent femicide, track records of female killings and ensure that justice is not perverted in Nigeria.
“In 2024, we have recorded more than 108 cases of femicide in ten months with 12 cases on an average per month”.
“It is important we let everyone know what femicide is in these 16 days of activism “, Ajayi said
Ajayi noted that her foundation has made a series of reports to the Nigerian Police Force.
The femicide awareness week is from December November 25 to December 10.
In addition, Damilola said she participated in the walk in memory of her sister, Bamise, who would have been 25 today, November 30th, being her birthday.
