No fewer than five persons lost their lives and six others seriously injured in a fatal auto crash in Kaita Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday.
Alhaji Habu Dauda, the Katsina State Sector Commander of the Federal Road safety Corps, who confirmed the incident, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaita on Monday that the tragedy occurred at about 2.30pm near Tashar Jawara village.
Dauda said that the accident occurred when a commercial Volkswagen Passat car with registration number BTM 349 AA, collided with a Mitsibushi pick-up vehicle bearing number XC 797 KTN.
He said that the driver of the Passat car tried to avoid a pothole, as a result of which it collided head on with the pick-up coming from the opposite direction, causing the death of five persons and injury of six others.
According to him, the injured persons are now receiving medical attention at the General Hospital, Katsina, while the deceased have been buried by their relations in accordance with Islamic injunctions.
He appealed to road users to be extra-careful and obey traffic rules and regulations while driving.
