The embattled Speaker of the Ekiti state House of Assembly, Dr. Adewale Omirin, on Wednesdat said his team has suspended their coming to the state until the Governor, Ayo Fayose, assures them of the safety of their lives.
Omirin also alleged that his official lodge was burgled by suspected thugs allegedly sponsored by the government.
He said some of his personal belongings, including N2.5 million, were stolen.
Omirin, who was speaking on the telephone on Monday, while responding to questions by journalists, said the coast was not yet clear for the 19 lawmakers elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress to come to the state.
Omirin and the 18 lawmakers on the platform of the APC are currently in Lagos.
Omirin was impeached by seven lawmakers on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday.
Omirin added: “The governor does not want us to come back and our members that came back to town, government’s agents went to their houses.
“I have spoken to the Commissioner of Police as regards this development but he said he was not aware that our members were in town.
“I have spoken to the Director of the DSS (Department of State Services).
“He said he was not in town.
“They were eight and dressed in hoods.
“They came in a jeep and stormed the houses of our members.
“We are aware that the governor’s plan is to kill two of our members so that bye election can be conducted in their constituencies.”
Responding, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Idowu Adelusi, said no amount of blackmail by the APC will discourage Fayose in his determination not to allow the alleged killer squad of former APC government return to the state.
Adelusi said the APC government recorded more killing during the government of former Governor Kayode Fayemi.
On the burgled house, Omirin said: “I locked my door when I was travelling but they went with carpenter to my house.
“The illegal speaker and every other people that went with him went to my fridge and emptied it.
“They were the ones that stole government’s properties.”
On constitutional implications of staying away, the embattled speaker said: “We have a right to regulate our own rules.
“It is the Ekiti people that should beg the governor to allow us to return.
“We are ready to do our work.
“The assembly is presently under siege by thugs.
“Nobody is going to risk his life by coming there.”
Omirin further alleged that buses bearing PDP had been loaded with thugs and being mobilised to come to Ado-Ekiti with a view to cause mayhem and in turn attribute it to the APC.
He added: “As soon as the governor guarantees our security, we shall return to the state.
“I’m a peace loving person.
“I don’t want crisis in the state.”
The Commissioner of Police, Taiwo Lakanu, in his response said he had received complaints from the embattled speaker, adding that he had directed the DPO in charge to investigate.
Lakanu added: “We hate propaganda and we don’t want to be involved.
“We received complaint of attack and I have asked the DPO to investigate.”
On those the police declared wanted in connection with some unresolved murder cases in the state, the CP said the command had not been able to re-arrest them but said the command had informed those concerned.
Adelusi in a statement noted that within four years of Fayemi’s administration, 10 persons were assassinated by a security aide of the governor.
“The list went on to include, Mr Awolumate, Ayo Jeje, Juliana Adewumi, Funso Ogundare, Omolafe Aderiye among others and APC leaders such as the State Chairman, Chief Jide Awe, Hon. Kehinde Boluwade, Adeniyi Adedipe among others who were indicted are standing trial,” Adelusi said.
According to Adelusi, all these murder suspects have been declared wanted by the police because immediately after the killing of Aderiye, they had gone under.
