Delta 2015: Youths demand PDP chair’s apology, resignation

The race to succeed Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State next year has put the oil rich state on the verge of strong political disagreement.
No thanks to the unabating disputes between the Chairman of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Peter Nwaoboshi, and the Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovouzerie Macaulay.
Elders, leaders and stakeholders in the politics of the state are now at loggerheads over who becomes the next governor.
The SSG has come under attack over his opinion that power could shift to any of the three senatorial district of Delta North, South and Central of the state in 2015.
Dissatisfied, Nwaoboshi, a Delta North man, a district that has not tasted power since the state was created over 22 years ago, told the SSG to shut up and bother himself only with official duties.
Disturbed by the unpalatable comments and vituperations trailing the opposing camps, Delta State youths, under the aegis of the Forum for Good Governance, threatened a showdown should the hiccup persist.
In a four-page statement, signed by its President-General, Comrade Prince Kpokpogri, in Asaba on Thursday, the FGG said Nwaoboshi’s attack on Macaulay “drew the ire of the people of Isoko nation who have demanded unreserved apology.”
Kpokpogri said: “We demand that Chief Nwaoboshi should apologize to Comrade Macaulay over his unwarranted comment against the SSG to avert possible political hiccups in the state and to put an end to the on-going unpalatable comments and write-ups that have characterized our polity or put the state on the verge of total collapse.
“May we emphasize here that the campaign offices of Delta North governorship aspirants in Isoko North and South Local Government (Macaulay’s stronghold) will be closed down and none of the aspirants will be allowed to campaign in the area if the chairman fails to tender the apology. We equally use this medium to call on the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, and other party leaders as a matter of urgency, to ask Nwaoboshi to step aside as the state chairman.”
While the President-General, flanked by his Deputy and Secretary, expressed the fear that soon politicians would resort to hiring youths to commit havocs, he said the duo should not push the youths into politics of cynicism.
The group expressed confidence in Governor Uduaghan’s quest of ensuring that his successor would build on the very strong foundations he had laid.
Unperturbed when contacted, Nwaoboshi said: “I don’t respond to sponsored groups.
“We know those sending them.
“For now, I want concern myself with party works and activities.”
