Major sponsor of the Nigeria national teams, Globacom, has charged the home-based Super Eagles to ensure total victory over the Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire when both sides clash in their first leg of the Africa Nations Championship 2014 qualifier at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Saturday.
Nigeria has not qualified for the continental competition since its debut in 2010 and the three-time Africa Nations Cup winner is determined to stem the unimpressive run.
Globacom in a press statement in Lagos on Thursday, encouraged the team and its handlers not to leave anything to chance, particularly since the home-based Ivoriens would be out to avenge the loss their main team suffered to Nigeria in the quarter finals of the AFCON 2013 in South Africa.
“Super Eagles must be motivated by the history that needs to be re-written in the CHAN qualification and we expect them to beat the Ivoriens comprehensively in order to make the second leg in Abidjan in a fortnight a mere formality,” the Globacom statement said.
“We are aware of the pressure on the Eagles as they go into this crucial game. But we are equally convinced that the experience of home-based players in the main team, will be brought to bear to earn victory over Cote d’Ivoire.”
The leading telecommunications operator believes that the home-based Eagles would be motivated by the possibility of breaking into the main team of Super Eagles to put in a superlative performance on Saturday.
Globacom is the official telecommunications partner of the Nigeria Football Federation and the major sponsor of the Nigerian national teams.
